How to Get the Best Results with a Stencil

14th Jun 2015

Nothing can add life to your walls like a stencil can!

Stenciling is a great way to add a bit of design and style to your walls, but unfortunately, getting a professional result is easier said than done. There's no doubt about it, stenciling can be difficult, and it is all too easy to do it wrong. However, all hope is not lost! There are many things that you can do to ensure that you will get the very best result. The following is a list of tips to help you to get the best results with a stencil:

#1. Use the right tools.

When it comes to stenciling, not all painting tools are created equal, and some will work much better than others. Your best bet is to find a stenciling brush, but small rollers and sponges can also be good options.

#2. Practice the right technique.

If you are using a stenciling brush, you will want to ensure that you paint with quick, up and down movements. This technique helps you to effectively apply the paint without having to worry about it getting under the edges of your stencil.

#3. Be stingy with your Modern Masters paint.

If you overload your paintbrush, you will end up with paint seeping under the stencil. When you load your brush up, do so lightly. The goal is to end up with the bristles evenly covered. If you end up with too much paint, wipe off the excess on a cloth or a piece of paper.
