Before you can understand all of the different color schemes, you need to get a clear understanding of the color wheel. The following is your guide to the basic color wheel:

Primary Colors

Primary colors are red, yellow and blue, and they cannot be created by mixing or combining any other colors. Primary colors are also the basis for which all other colors are made.

Secondary Colors

Secondary colors are made by mixing or combining two or more primary colors. Purple, green and orange are all secondary colors.

Tertiary Colors

When you mix a primary color and a secondary color, you get a tertiary color. That is why all tertiary colors are described using two different colors. For example, red-orange, yellow-orange and yellow-green are all tertiary colors.

Now that you have learned all about the basics of the color wheel, it'll be much easier to understand all of the classic color schemes that are available for you to choose from. Stay tuned for our next blog to learn about the color schemes.
